Wow! What a summer it’s been for Revo volleyball ambassadors Jess Grimson and Vicky Palmer. The duo recently won the Margate Volleyball England Beach Tour (VEBT) finals, AND they were crowned National Champions for the second year in a row.
A series of 5 competitions, the VEBT started in June, and Grimson and Palmer worked their way through the season winning each tournament. But it wasn’t easy; in the final competition the British volleyball players had to put up a fight against Elfi Holt and Katja Gless. Holt and Gless won the first set 25-23, but the initial setback inspired Grimson and Palmer to step up their game, and the pair ultimately won the match 2-1 (23-21, 22-24, 12-15). Congrats for a job well done!
In addition to the VEBT, Grimson and Palmer recently placed third in the third round of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) Beach Volleyball Continental Cup, propelling them to the fourth and final round of the second phase. A 3 year competition consisting of 3 phases, the Continental Cup started in 2014 with 2 rounds, has continued this year with 2 more rounds, and ends next year in June 2016. The stakes are high—the winners of the cup are awarded the opportunity to compete in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics beach volleyball tournament—but the duo is confident, especially after their performance at the third round. In a match against Valeriya Babenkoand and Viktoriya Milevskaya of Belarus, Grimson and Palmer were behind 13-19, but they came back with a series of 7 (!) points to ultimately win the match (25-23, 23-21). Said Palmer, “It is one of the biggest comebacks of our career, that’s for sure. They key point was in the second set of the second match, at which we didn’t give up and we managed to stay in the game. Normally we don’t do so well under pressure, but this time things were different and we are happy to have the opportunity to keep on playing in the Continental Cup.”
With only a few more days until the fourth round of the Continental Cup, Grimson and Vicky are preparing for some tough matches against some of the best beach volleyball players in the world. We wish them the best of luck, and we can’t wait to watch them play!
