Western China’s Qinghai provence is home to some of the world’s most under appreciated roads. Here, ahead of the Tour of Qinghai Lake bicycle race, our team got to scout the next day’s route as the race headed away from China’s largest lake and into the mountains. It’s a great ride, but be prepared for the altitude. The lake sits just above 10,000 feet on the Tibetan plateau, and the mountains surrounding it peak around 12,000 feet.
